There are few activities as complex and trying as learning how to fly a kite. Often fragile and challenging to assemble, these perplexing little sails frequently seem resistant to riding the wind as they were designed to do. Mastery almost always requires guidance, persistence, and creativity.

And yet despite, or perhaps because of these confusing procedural mechanics, there are few images as joyful and inspiring as a resilient kite sailing through the skies, soaring exactly where it was meant to be. 

When thinking about childhood, parenting, and the journey to self-actualization that is central to the human experience, it is difficult to shake the image of a brightly-coloured kite, bursting with potential and preparing to take flight.
